Edo Japan Limited Partnership (“Edo”, “We”, “Us”, “Our”) respects the privacy of its customers, visitors and users of its website (the “Site”) and our mobile application (the “App”).
The purpose of this Privacy Policy (the “Policy”) is to provide you with information about how we collect, use, disclose and protect your personal information in connection with your use of the Site, the App and other services made available through the Site and the App including, without limitation, the Edo Cash Rewards Program (the “Services”, together the Site, the App and the Services referred to herein as the “Online Services”). This Policy applies to all users of the Online Services (“You”, “Your”, “Users”). We are committed to protecting your privacy and will manage your personal information in accordance with applicable provincial or federal privacy legislation.
By installing the App, creating an account with us, using or accessing the Online Services, submitting any personal information to us or interacting with us in any manner, you acknowledge the notices in the Policy and you consent to our collection, use, disclosure and retention of your personal information in accordance with the Policy and as otherwise permitted by law. Depending on the information we collect and the purposes for which the personal information will be used, your consent may be express or implied. When you voluntarily provide personal information to us, we will imply your consent to use and disclose that information in accordance with the Policy. If you wish to withdraw your consent to our collection, use or disclosure of your personal information, see Section 9 (Withdrawing Your Consent) below.
IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO THE TERMS OF THIS POLICY, YOU MUST NOT ACCESS OR USE THE ONLINE SERVICES, SUBMIT ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION TO US OR INTERACT WITH US IN ANY MANNER. YOU MUST IMMEDIATLEY UNINSTALL THE APP.
1. General Terms
Updates and Changes: We reserve the right to modify the Policy at any time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Policy on this page. You are advised to review the Policy periodically for any changes. Changes to the Policy are effective when they are posted on this page. Your continued interactions with us or use of the Online Services after any such changes come into effect will constitute your acceptance of such changes to the Policy.
In some cases, we may seek your consent for the use and disclosure of your personal information after it has been collected but before it has been used or disclosed (e.g., where we want to use your personal information for a purpose not previously identified to you). We will not use or disclose your personal information for any new purpose without first identifying the new purpose and providing notice to you or obtaining your consent (as applicable), unless otherwise permitted by law.
You can always choose not to provide us with certain requested personal information, but then you may not be able to access or utilize all or part of the Online Services.
Incorporation of Terms of Use: Our Terms of Use are incorporated into the Policy by reference. If you have not yet reviewed the Terms of Use, please do so prior to agreeing to the Policy. Disagreement with the Terms of Use will constitute disagreement with the Policy.
2. Collection of Your Personal Information
We collect your personal information when you interact with us or use the Online Services. We also collect some personal information from you automatically, which is addressed in more detail below.
Information you voluntarily provide through your use of our App, Site or Services, or otherwise directly to us:
- Your Account Information: We collect your personal information when you register for an account (“Account”) with Edo, typically after downloading the App and when you create or modify your Account or user profile. This includes information such as your first and last name, email address, phone number, postal code, date of birth (excluding birth year), your method of payment i.e., gift card, credit card (the type of credit card you used and the last four digits of such credit card) or debit card (the last four digits of your debit card, username and password) (“Account Information”).
- Your Order Information: We collect information when you use the Online Services to order food or merchandise from us, including what you ordered, from what restaurant and when.
- When You Contact Us: We collect your personal information when you contact Edo directly to inquire about the Online Services and other matters including, without limitations, staff issues, nutritional information, in-store orders. This may include your name, email address, phone number and other information that you choose to provide to us, including your communication with us.
- User Payment Information: We do not collect or store your credit card information. When you make a purchase through the Online Services, you provide your Account Information and payment information to the third-party payment processor of Edo, presently Square Canada, Inc. (“Payment Processor”).
- Gift Cards: We collect your information when you purchase a gift card from our restaurants directly, through our retail providers (e.g., grocery stores) and/or when you purchase an e-gift card from the Online Services.
- Edo Cash Rewards Program: We collect your information when you register for our Edo Cash Rewards Program. This includes your Account Information. The Edo Cash Rewards Program is facilitated through a third-party provider, Paystone.
- Promotions and Contests: We do not collect information you provide when entering a contest using the Online Services. We use a third-party provider to facilitate our contests and promotions. The third-party service provider will receive your information when you enter your information through the Online Services to enter a contest or receive promotional materials. This third-party services provider may collect information about the date and time you entered your information, the contest materials were delivered to you and received by you, your phone number, name and email address.
- Forms or Surveys: We do not collect information you provide using the forms on the Online Services. We use a third-party provider, presently Intouch Insight and SurveyMonkey, to manage our online forms and surveys. The third-party service provider will receive your information when you fill out the forms or surveys on or through the Online Services. This third-party services provider may collect the date and time the form or survey was filled out and all of the information you provide to us through the form or survey.
- Mailing List: We do not collect the information you provide when you sign up for our mailing list to receive newsletters and other types of marketing communication and promotion materials from us. We use a third-party provider, presently MailChimp, to manage our mailing list and the marketing and promotional communication sent to Users. The third-party provider will receive your name, postal code, phone number and email address when you fill out the form on or through the Online Services. This third-party service provider may collect your personal information, as well as the date, location (city and province) and time you filled out your information through the form.
- Posting a Comment, Rating or Review: We collect the information you include in any feedback you provide to Edo. This information includes any review or materials you post on or through the App, the Site, Google reviews or any of our social media accounts.
- Job Applicants: We collect personal information that you provide to us when you submit your job application using the Site or the Services, including your employment history, CV and any other information you provide while submitting your job application.
- Other Information: We collect any other personal information you submit directly to Edo on a voluntary basis. For example, you may provide information to Edo in respect of a claim or dispute.
Information Automatically Collected When Using the Site or the App:
- Device Information, Technical and Usage Information: Edo may collect or access information about your device, such as device model, unique device identification number, browser type and version, usage data, IP address, time zone setting, operating system and platform. This information may include the sections of the Online Services you visit, the full Uniform Resource Locators (URLs), clickstream to, through and from our Online Services (including date and time), products you viewed on our Online Services, your actions within the Online Services (such as scrolling, clicks, duration and mouse-overs), connection speed, download errors, crashes and other system activity.
- Geolocation: If you enable location services in the App through your mobile device, we will collect the location of your mobile device when the App is running in the foreground or background. You can choose whether to enable the location tracking feature through the settings on your mobile device. If you choose to disable access to location services through your mobile device, this means that the App will not receive location information from your device, which may affect the functionality available to you.
- Cookies and Beacons: We may use cookies, beacons and other similar automated technologies to support the functionality of our Online Services, your Account and provide you with a tailored experience. These technologies assist with traffic analysis on our Online Services, allow us to understand activity on our Online Services and modify our Online Services in respect of each individual’s engagement and interests. Cookies also enable our Online Services to save and retrieve information that you enter (for example, Account identifiers, user preferences and settings). Cookies may remain on your device after you leave the Online Services (until the cookies expire or are deleted by you).
The technologies we use for this automatic data collection may include:
- Cookies (or browser cookies): A cookie is a small file placed on the hard drive of your computer. You may refuse to accept browser cookies by activating the appropriate setting on your browser. However, if you select this setting you may be unable to access certain parts of our Online Services. Unless you have adjusted your browser setting so that it will refuse cookies, our system will issue cookies when you direct your browser to our Online Services.
- Flash Cookies: Certain features of our Online Services may use local stored objects (or Flash cookies) to collect and store information about your preferences and navigation to, from and on our Online Services. Flash cookies are not managed by the same browser settings that are used for browser cookies. For information about managing your privacy and security settings for Flash cookies, see “Choices About How We Use and Disclose Your Information” in Section 9 (Withdrawing Your Consent) below.
- Web Beacons: Pages of our Online Services and our emails may contain small electronic files known as web beacons (also referred to as clear gifs, pixel tags, single-pixel gifs and Facebook/Meta pixels) that permit us and third-parties, such as Facebook/Meta, to count users who have visited those pages or opened an email and for other related website statistics (for example, recording the popularity of certain website content and verifying system and server integrity).
3. Use of Your Personal Information
Since Edo is a quick service food and beverage restaurant, we require basic personal information to communicate with you, conduct online transactions with you, promote our brand, products and the Services, and understand your preferences and evaluate your engagement with our Online Services so that we can provide you with tailored offers and loyalty benefits. We may use personal information as permitted by law and for various related purposes, including the following:
- Account Information: We use your Account Information to provide you with access to the App and/or the Services, to create and set up your Account and user profile, to administer your use of the App and/or the Services and to verify who you are when you order from us through the App and/or the Services or participate in our Edo Cash Rewards Program.
- Order Information: We are always looking for ways to improve your experience and our customer service, products and services. We continually optimize and enhance our menu according to what our guests enjoy most. We accomplish this by monitoring anonymized purchasing data to determine general customer trends.
- Contact Information: We use your contact information to contact and correspond with you directly about our relationship and your use of the Online Services. Edo may contact you to inform you about its services in different ways including by mail, email, telephone, or other means to which you have agreed. For example, we may use your contact information to provide you with information or services that you have requested, to respond to customer service requests and where we have your consent to do so, to send you marketing and promotional materials or push notifications through the App.
- Payment Information: As explained above, we use a third-party payment processor to handle payments for orders using the App or the Services. We collect anonymized purchasing data to facilitate transactions, ensure the smooth operation of our Services and gain insights into our sales and operational performance. This data also aids us in understanding customer behavior, which in turn allows us to improve our Services and provide a better user experience.
- Gift Cards: Our third-party payment processor will handle payment information but we may use your information to help identify and verify gift card purchases to help us detect and prevent fraud. We may also use information about how gift cards are used to understand your and others’ preferences and so we can improve our Services and product offerings.
- Edo Cash Rewards Program: When you register and connect with us using your Rewards Program membership, we may use the information about your orders in conjunction with other information we collect to understand your interests and for marketing purposes. We may use your order and rewards information to provide you with tailored offers, raise engagement with our products and Services and improve our Services and product offerings.
- Contests and Promotions: Edo is an exciting place and we regularly conduct special offers, promotions and menu changes. We would not want you to miss out. Where we have your express consent to do so, we may use information you provide to us to send you messages, which could include emails, texts, instant messages and messages to your telephone number, social media and other digital messaging systems. See Section 9 (Withdrawing Your Consent) below for more information on how to “opt-out” of receiving certain electronic communications from us.
- Forms and Surveys: As mentioned above, we use a third-party to administer our forms and survey on the Online Services.We may use this information for User support services (e.g., to resolve disputes between Users), for safety and security purposes and to improve the Online Services.
- Opting-in Marketing Communications from Edo: If you provide us with your email address and “opt-in” to receiving messages from us via the email address provided, you may receive electronic communications from us from time to time. These electronic communications will provide you with our contact information and a method to opt-out and unsubscribe from receiving marketing information and/or any further communications from us.
- Posting a Comment, Rating or Review: We use rating and review information to improve our customer service by responding to customer reviews and to improve the Online Services, including to administer and resolve technical issues on the Site or the App. We may also use this information to investigate and address User concerns. In addition, we may use this information to suspend or deactivate User accounts.
- Social Media: We use this information for the purpose of responding to inquiries made to us through social media, to enter individuals in contests, giveaways and/or promotions that we are running on social media, to gauge engagement and understand your interests and to forecast, plan and market our products and Services.
- Job Applicants: We use personal information you provide in job applications to assess eligibility and qualification for employment. We may also gather additional information about applicants from third-parties in the hiring process, as authorized. If you are hired, we may use the information provided with your job application as a part of your employment record.
- Device Information, Technical and Usage Information: We use device information to understand traffic and activity on the Site and the App and enable us to improve the Online Services. For example, this information helps us understand whether the App is compatible with your mobile device.
- Geolocation Information: Edo has locations across Canada. We collect your geolocation to enable you to see where nearby restaurants are located, to identify order for pick up locations and to assist with navigation. We also use this information to deliver geographically relevant content. We use your IP address, the GPS signal on your device, information about nearby WiFi access points and cell towers that may be transmitted to us when you use the App and the Services to determine your preferred restaurant location to make sure that you get content relevant to where you are. We use saved address information to optimize our business, locations and staffing requirements. We keep an eye on store traffic and give consideration to where our guests enjoy our services, and adjust our brick and mortar operations according to estimated volume of guests and food order patterns.
- Cookies and Tracking Technology: We use this information to track the activity of Users on the Site and the App and modify the Site and the App to reflect a User’s preferences. Cookies enable the App and the Site to save and retrieve information that you enter (for example, user preferences and settings). Cookies may remain on your device after you leave the App or the Site (until the cookies expire or are deleted by you). You can disable cookies by adjusting the settings on your internet browser. However, disabling cookies may affect your ability to access some pages on the Site or the App. We use other tracking technologies to understand how Users use the App and to understand how you interact with Edo ads.
- To Meet Legal and Regulatory Requirements: We are required to collect and use personal information to meet our contractual, legal and regulatory obligations to you and others.
4. When and How Do We Share Your Personal Information?
Edo does not sell or provide your personal information to third-parties for the purpose of solicitation. However, there are some instances where we may share your personal information internally or with trusted business partners. Edo may disclose your personal information where permitted by law. In some cases, Edo will disclose your personal information in accordance with the following:
- Subject to applicable regulations, your personal information may be shared with Edo subsidiaries or partner corporations.
- Edo may also disclose your personal information where authorized or required by law. For example, we may disclose your personal information to comply with a subpoena, in response to a law enforcement body with the lawful authority to obtain the information, pursuant to an investigation into the breach of a law, or to our legal counsel.
- Your personal information may also be disclosed to an organization or a person directly employed by Edo to perform functions on our behalf, including market research, menu tasting, target marketing, data processing, location scouting or to provide auxiliary online services.
- Edo may also disclose your personal information to third-party organizations used by Edo to provide customer service or collect and process payment information as discussed below.
Information provided through your use of a third-party service provider: In accordance with the Terms of Use, you may connect to, use and access certain approved third-party applications, software or services through the Online Services.
Edo may disclose certain personal information to third-party service providers with whom it has contracted to provide certain services on behalf of Edo. Currently, Edo uses the third-party service providers set out below:
- Software Design and Operation: We use a third-party application development company, Tacit Corporation, to design and maintain the online ordering and Edo Cash Rewards Program that we use for the App and the Site.
- Electronic Communications: We use a third-party email service provider, MailChimp, to send electronic communications to Users.
- Forms, Contests and Surveys: We use a third-party service provider, SurveyMonkey to administer forms, contents and surveys.
- Payment processing: We use the Payment Processor to facilitate payment transactions for orders for pickup using the App.
- Gift Card Provider: Our gift cards and e-gift cards are provided by a third-party gift card provider. We may share information with such third-party gift card provider to administer the card and its use, including when you check the balance on the gift card or e-gift card.
- Edo Cash Rewards Program: The Edo Cash Rewards Program is facilitated through a third-party provider, Paystone.
- Uber Eats: We engage with third-party service provider, Uber Eats, operating under our brand as a white label service, to facilitate our food delivery services. Please be aware that interactions with Uber Eats are subject to their own privacy policies.
- Intouch Insight: We use third-party service provider, Intouch Insight, for the customer service inquiries submitted through the form on our website.
- Celerity/PixelPoint: We utilize a third-party Point of Sale (POS) providers, Celerity or PixelPoint, which are integrated with our loyalty program and may collect your information and transaction history. Please note that any interactions with Celerity/PixelPoint are governed by their own privacy policies.
We do not control how these third-parties use your information and are not responsible for their privacy practices, collection of personal information or content of external websites. We urge you to read the privacy policies of any third-party service provider you access or use through our Online Services. You agree to abide by the terms and conditions and privacy policy applicable to such third-party service providers.
The Online Services may include links to external websites or platforms that Edo does not own or operate. Also, links to the Online Services may be featured on third-party websites or platforms on which we advertise or with which we partner, such as DoorDash, SkipTheDishes or Uber Eats. Except as provided in the Policy, we will not provide personal information to these third-parties without consent. We provide links to third-party websites or platforms as a convenience to you. These links are not intended as an endorsement of or referral to the linked websites or platforms. Once you leave the App or the Site the Policy does not apply.
In all circumstances, your information is shared with our service providers in strict confidence, under legal agreements and only for its intended purpose.
5. Security and Protection of Personal Information
Edo takes reasonable steps to protect your personal information. We use security arrangements to protect against unauthorized access, collection, use, disclosure and disposal, in a manner appropriate to the sensitivity of the information you provide to us.
As well, Edo will use care when destroying or disposing of personal information to prevent unauthorized access, use or disclosure of any personal information. Edo’s employees and independent contractors with access to personal information are required to respect the confidentiality of such information.
We have implemented privacy management program and procedures to protect your personal information, for answering privacy-related questions and for providing you with information about our privacy practices. We have implemented reasonable administrative and technical safeguards in an effort to protect against unauthorized access, collection, use, modification, disclosure and disposal of personal information in our custody and control, in a manner appropriate to the sensitivity of the information.
The safety and security of your personal information also depends on you. Edo is not responsible for any lost, stolen or compromised Account credentials or for any activity on your Account via unauthorized password activity. You should take steps to protect against unauthorized access to your Account by, for example, choosing a robust password and keeping your Account credentials private. Edo is not responsible for any failure by you to secure your own devices and their access to internet or your use of public, unsecured networks.
Unfortunately, information systems, the transmission of information via the internet and mobile platforms are not completely secure. Although we have designed features and employed security techniques to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee the security of personal information at all times. Any transmission of your personal information is at your own risk.
6. International Operations and Data Transfers
Unless there is a legal or regulatory requirement to store, access and use personal information on Canadian soil, we may use third-party IT cloud platforms located within the United States and Canadato process and/or store personal information. Please be advised that personal information in the custody of these third-party platforms may be subject to access by the law enforcement authorities of those jurisdictions in which the third-parties are located. Wherever possible, we will encrypt personal information with algorithms that can only be accessed by our organization.
The Payment Processors will provide some or all of the payment services from systems located within the United States or other countries outside of Canada. As a result, payment data you provide may be transferred, processed and stored outside of Canada and may be subject to disclosure as required by applicable laws in those jurisdictions in which it is processed or stored.
Our Privacy Officer can provide further detail about our data handling practices.
7. Openness
Edo makes clear and transparent notice of its privacy practices publicly available with this Policy and with the notifications that we provide to you at the time that we collect your personal information from you. You are also welcome to contact our Privacy Officer (please see Section 11 (Challenging Compliance) below for contact information) to seek additional information about our privacy policies and practices.
8. Accessing Your Personal Information
At any time, you can review, edit or request removal of information you have provided to Edo within the requirements as outlined in Section 9 (Withdrawing Your Consent) below. Upon written request addressed to the Edo’s Privacy Officer (please see Section 11 (Challenging Compliance) below for contact information), we will also provide you with a list of entities to whom we have disclosed your personal information.
9. Withdrawing Your Consent
You can withdraw consent for us to use your personal information at any time by giving Edo reasonable notice and sending an email to privacy@edojapan.com, but consent may not be withdrawn where doing so would frustrate performance of a legal obligation.
You may refuse to provide your personal information to us.
- Choices about How We Use and Disclose Your Personal Information: We want you to understand your choices and make informed decisions about how we use and disclose your personal information. There are several options available for you to manage your privacy preferences including, for example by contacting us directly, changing your browser or device settings, and/or by contacting approved third-parties.
- Opting-out of Marketing Communications from Edo: You can opt-out of receiving further communications from us by contacting the Privacy Officer (please see Section 11 (Challenging Compliance) below for contact information). We may use your email address and phone number to communicate with you regarding important matters, such as information about your Account. You may not opt-out of receiving communications required by law or necessary to provide you with requested services.
- Cookies: You can disable cookies by adjusting the settings on your internet browser. Disabling cookies may affect your ability to access some pages on our Online Services and your Account may not be accessible or may not function properly.
- Advertising: Edo does not share your personal information with unaffiliated third-parties for marketing or promotional purposes. We do not control third-parties’ collection or use of your information to serve advertising. These third-parties may provide you with additional choices about how they use your information or ways to choose not to have your information collected or used in this way. You can opt out of several third-party ad servers’ and networks’ cookies by using one of the tools created by the Digital Advertising Alliance of Canada.
- Delete Your Account: You can delete your Account at any time. We may retain information from deleted Accounts to comply with any federal, provincial, local or other applicable laws, rules or regulations, to prevent fraud, collect fees, resolve disputes, troubleshoot problems, assist with investigations, enforce the Terms of Use and take other actions permitted by applicable laws. The information we retain will be handled in accordance with the Policy. Following the deletion of your Account, it may take up to thirty (30) days to fully delete your personal information from our systems.
- Retention: Edo stores your personal information for as long as it is reasonably necessary to fulfill the purposes we collected it for, except as otherwise permitted or required by applicable law or regulation. You may request deletion of your personal information by us, but please note that we may be required (by law or otherwise) to keep this information and not delete it (or to keep this information for a certain time, in which case, we will comply with your deletion request only after we have fulfilled such requirements). Edo destroys or anonymizes all personal information when it is determined that it is no longer necessary to deliver the Services to you. Edo will use care when destroying or disposing of personal information to prevent unauthorized access, use or disclosure of such information. When we delete personal information, it will be deleted from the active database, including from our archives.
Where information is stored with our third-parties, we will proceed as necessary to remove your information as requested. If you decide that you no longer want us to send you further communications, we may still contact you for food safety reasons. Withdrawing or refusing to provide basic personal information may hamper or entirely prevent us from providing goods and services to you.
10. Correction and Access to Your Personal Information
All personal information in your Account and user profile is accessible by you. You can make changes to certain personal information that Edo holds about you, such as your contact information, by editing the information in your Account. You are responsible for keeping the personal information in your Account up to date and accurate. Certain minimum personal information must be input in your Account in order to use the Online Services. For example, Users must share their first name, last name, email, phone number, postal code and birthday (day and month only).
You can challenge the accuracy and completeness of your personal information in the possession and control of Edo. In appropriate circumstances, Edo will amend the information. It is your responsibility to provide any updates to your personal information to Edo in writing.
You may request access to your personal information and/or correction of that information by contacting Edo in writing at the contact information noted below, with sufficient detail to enable Edo to identify the personal information being sought. When you contact Edo, we may ask for further information to confirm your identity and the nature of the information being sought.
After we receive your request for access to personal information, we will provide you with an estimate of when you can expect a response. In some cases, we may need additional time to respond to a request, in which case, we will provide you with written notice of the extension. Please note that in some cases, we may not provide access to personal information that we hold about you, such as where the denial of access is authorized by law. There are also cases where we may be legally required to refuse access to personal information. If Edo denies your request for access to personal information, we will advise you of the reason for the refusal and will provide the name, title and contact information of the designated person who can address the refusal.
11. Challenging Compliance
Edo’s Privacy Officer is responsible for receiving your privacy related questions. You may send us your privacy related questions or challenge our compliance with our Privacy Policy by submitting your concern to our Privacy Officer:

12. Changes to the Policy
We may update the Policy to reflect changes to our information handling practices. We will post any changes here and if significant, we will notify you of any changes over email. We will also keep outdated and past policies linkable here for your review.
